September 4, 2018 - A Clemson team led by Dr. Mark Thies (with Dr. Scott as co-Principal Investigator) was awarded a new grant entitled "Lignin Fractionation and Valorization: Focusing on both Value and Quality" from the US Department of Energy through the BioEnergy Engineering for Products Synthesis (BEEPS) Program. November 14, 2017 - The Scott Research group joined the RAPID Center for Process Modeling (CPM). The CPM was commissioned by the DOE RAPID Institute in May 2017 with the mission of standardizing and advancing process modeling methodology for evaluating chemical process intensification technologies. The CPM is led by Dr. Chau-Chyun Chen at TTU, and is a collaboration between RAPID, TTU, CU, SRNL, Aspen Technologies, Dow Chemicals, and others. The Scott Group's activities in CPM are supported by the SC Department of Commerce and led by PhD candidate Taehun Kim.

May 13, 2017 - Dr. Scott won the 2017 Automatica Paper Prize from the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC). This award recognizes the three best papers published in the premier control journal Automatica the the three year period from 2015 to 2017, and was awarded for the paper "Constrained Zonotopes: A New Tool for Set-Based Estimation and Fault Detection," by Joseph K. Scott, Davide M. Raimondo, G. Roberto Marseglia, and Richard D. Braatz.

This award recognizes the paper "Generalized McCormick Relaxations," by Joseph K. Scott and Paul I. Barton, which was also recognized by the inaugural best paper award from the Journal of Global Optimization in 2012.
